General Overview

Learning in a classroom is important, it gives foundational academic information but it  not enough, it does not always teach you how  to apply your learning.  It is for this reason the doctors, lawyers, teachers all leave the academic classroom and go into the classroom of life.

That’s exactly what an internship is. An internship provides the opportunity to significantly accelerate and deepen the integration of “learning” and “doing” in a practical way. Media Village internships can either be missions based, industry based or in-house.  Each placement provides students with a different but relevant learning experience.

There is a cost for a placement fee for the internship – this fee is used to register the internship with the University of the Nation and covers Media Village administrative expenses (see fee schedule) This fee is applicable even if the student does an in-house Media Village placement. Many media schools have a three month INTERNSHIP. Twelve of the University of the Nations credits are awarded. Media Village also offers a one and two year APPRENTICESHIP Media Village accepts INTERNS who have completed their academic phase at other learning institutions.

Three Month Internship

The following Media Village schools offer a three month internship after the successful  completion of the course:

- School of Radio Broadcasting

- School of Video Production

- School of Digital Photography and Storytelling

- School of Writing and Mass Media

Students can apply to do an internship at Media Village or work on a missions story or the industry. Media Village is not responsible for securing an internship but will do their best to find a suitable location for every student.  There are only a limited number of Media Village internships and so an application is not a guaranteed placement. All students are required to pay a placement/registration fee before commencing on the internship. (see fee schedule) Board and lodging are not included but are available for students who are working at Media Village/missions/ or in the industry (see fee schedule) One U of N credit is awarded for every week completed.

Apprenticeship

The old master artists knew that the best way of teaching their scholars was to have them imitate and follow their every stroke.  By the end of an apprenticeship it was often difficult to determine the difference between the master and the apprentice.

That’s our goal for the apprenticeship program. Students work at Media Village for one to two years.  They are required to pay board and lodging and in return they are given the opportunity to learn, stroke-by-stroke, precept upon precept. Over the length of this time they will get experience covering all aspects of the production process: from pre production to post. University of the Nations credits are available on request for this period of learning and working.

Academic Requirements

Learners must have completed the appropriate training in the area of their discipline before they can commence an internship at Media Village. Students are required to fill in a weekly log of their activities while on the internship.  These log sheets are used to finalize their grade with the University of the Natons.
