This includes at least 50% of the school fees, which are payable on arrival.

Foreign Students

All classes are taught in English and prospective students who have English as second or third language need to be able to understand and communicate with ease in English.

All foreign students are to apply for the appropriate visa – confirm with the registrar at registrar@mediavillage.info for the correct visa.  We will forward you the letters and embassy letters with your acceptance letter.

Some countries take up to three months to process visas. START APPLYING  for your visa the moment you get your acceptance letter. If you wait until the end you may well miss the opportunity to study at Media Village.

All students need to have proof of a RETURN  AIRTICKET  to their country of origin.  Do not arrive with a one-way ticket, you will be sent home.

Please check the South Africa embassy/ consult for any specific paper work that you may require before leaving home.  Some countries require that you pay a repatriation fee before leaving. This can be an added expense so please ensure that you have enough finances available.  www. globalvisas.com

Grading Evaluation

The development of Christian character is an integral part of our training and a central ongoing goal of Media Village and the U of N. Consequently, we expect that the conduct of students will be in keeping with biblical standards. Any verified moral violation (including but not limited to cheating and plagiarism, sexual immorality, lying, dishonesty, theft, substance abuse, physical or sexual abuse) will be considered grounds for disciplinary action including probation, failure to graduate from the current school and possible dismissal from the University.

Records for students of U of N are established and transferred to a central Registrar.

As Media Village is based on the British system of grading we have chosen to use a dual record system. All work is mark with a South African grading criteria and then transferred to a U of N grade at the completion of the school.

Passing grades: “A”, “B”, “C”, and “D” signify various levels of achievement for each completed course.

Failing grade: “F” is indicative of unsatisfactory work, usually reflecting that less than 60% of the material has been adequately mastered

GRADES USED FOR SPECIAL SITUATIONS:

In some circumstances, the following grades apply:

Incomplete: the grade “I” (incomplete) may be given at the discretion of the course leader when a student cannot fulfill the requirements of the course. This grade is given only when the deficiency is due to authorized absence or other cause beyond the control of the student, and when the work already done has been of a standard acceptable for the satisfactory completion of the course. If a student misses 2 weeks of a course, the student receives an “I” grade at the end of the school.

Late Admission: a student who arrives late cannot make up any missed weeks in a course while simultaneously at- tending the same course. He or she must wait until the course is finished before doing so.

Audit: special circumstances may make it desirable for a student to audit a regular U of N credit course, instead of pursuing it for academic credit.

ACADEMIC PPOBATION:

A student receiving a borderline grade of “D” in a course of 10 or more credits will be placed on academic probation. Students on probation will be permitted to continue their studies. However, they must receive a grade point of 3.0 (“C”) or above in the next term or they will be dismissed from the University under the conditions stated in the next section. Only one “D” grade is allowed in a degree or diploma programme.

Grades used for Discipleship Training School and Crossroads Discipleship Training School

Media Village is a ministry of Youth With A Mission (YWAM). We are the College of Communication for the University of the Nations (U of N), which is the training arm of YWAM.

We have a twofold vision: TRAINING to sculpt futures by faith, and PRODUCTION to enhance Stories told by faith.
In the past 15 years we have trained hundreds of students from 50 nations. Many of these students are currently in their own countries influencing others through mass communication. Our success has not only been felt in the Christian community, but a secular media organization called National TV and Video Association (NTVA) has awarded our students over 64 awards in the past seven years.

We believe that mass communication is a mission field that has not been affected with the Gospel. The Christian community shouts loudly against war, sex, crime and video violence, but we have often failed to infiltrate the ranks of media and present alternatives that reflect a healthy lifestyle based on a Christian worldview.

HIV/AIDS Policy

Admission to Media Village and the University of the Nations is open to qualified individuals regardless of race, color, na- tional or ethnic origin, sex or educationally unrelated handi-caps or HIV status.

On the Media Village medical application form there is a question regarding the known HIV/AIDS status.  This form is a confidential form and only the school  and base leadership have access to this information . No student will be discriminated against if they are positive, the information is just required as all students live in close community, and outreaches often go to remote locations, and should an emergency arise this information may be needed.

Disciplinary Action Policy

Media Village has a disciplinary procedure that is essential for the successful and harmonious operation of the ministry and the fair treatment of individual students / staff and employees.  The primary objective of the disciplinary procedure is to initiate corrective action where the staff/student /employee's behaviour is unacceptable

The severity of disciplinary action taken will depend upon the circumstances of each case. Mitigating factors will be taken into account.

Major offences include:  Theft, Bribery, Fraud;

The removal of material, equipment or property without authority from Media Village;

Being in unauthorised possession of Media Village’s property

Sexual immorality  (including premarital sex, addictive viewing of pornography and rape)

Violent behaviour and drunkedness.

Dealing or using drugs on Media Village premises or while registered with Media Village.

NATURE OF DISCIPLINARY MEASURES:

There are four types of disciplinary action which may be taken against a student/staff member/ employee, which will depend on the nature and seriousness of the disciplinary infraction.

The four types of disciplinary action are as follows:

1.              Written warning;

2.              Final written warning;

3.              Suspension (with or without pay);

4.              Dismissal (with or without notice).

Should any student/staff/employee break a legal law of the land (drunken driving, theft or drug usage) Media Village will be compelled to lay a criminal charge.

Transfer Policy

Admission will be granted to students who have begun their work at other colleges or universities, providing the student satisfies the regular requirements for admission to the U of N. In order to apply for transfer credit, the applicant should request a transcript of course work from the previous school to be forwarded to their U of N academic advisor for evaluation. The advisor will evaluate the transcript and forward a recommendation to the International Provost’s Office. Transfer credit must be from a legitimate tertiary institution and must not exceed 72 undergraduate credits for a BA candidate.

Course Fees

50% student fees are to be paid upon arrival. The balance is to be paid in two equal payments at the beginning of the second and third month.  Any exception must be documented in writing and approved by the school leader before the student arrives. If school fees are not paid in full before graduation the student will not recieve their course completion certificate, nor a degree diploma, and acceptance into other courses will be not permitted until the fees are paid in full.
